What YOU say about the result
The electorate felt they were
cheated by the tory win in '92, and so judged the failings
of the government over the term all the nore harshly.
(BTW my vote was tactical)
The conservative party had become arrogant, complacent
and patronising after 18 years in office. Despite a
number of good ideas, good policies and specifc areas of
competence, they let ideology and personal interest take
precedence over the desires of the electorate. They ended
up angering almost everyone of some issue or another.
The electorate wanted to vent that anger, and did so.
The undue influence that the far right of the conservative
party were able to exert as a result of their wafer-thin
majority played a major part in this, too.
Most people I spoke to before and after the results were
announced felt that Major was a good prime minister. It
was his party that needed to be removed, Major himself
was just a casualty.
My personal choice for the new government would have been
Neil Kinnock's labour party. From the point of view of
policy, Blair is just another conservative as far as I can
tell.
People had given the tories 18 years to get things right, unfortunately they
didn't come up with the goods. It's time for a change!
People want change.
GOOD LUCK TO THEM.
The country was screaming for a change. the tory were not trusted on most
matters and they were divided, incompetent and arrogant
Britain needs a change
- but it's a shame people I know who feel they
should vote "Lib Dem" don't, most claim it's
because they feel they haven't a chance of
winning ... no wonder .... if they then go and
vote for the new Labour !
